An innovative project designed to
test the effectiveness of technology in enhancing Social Public and Financial
Accountability SPEFA, has been launch in Bolgantanga in Upper East Region.
Tech-enabled,
is a technology platform with a call center number 0307084589 which citizens,
with the use of mobile phone, can access information on development of their
various communities in any sector such as agriculture, education, environment,
sanitation or revenue generation of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and
District Assemblies .
The essence of Tech-enabled is to afford citizens the
opportunity to understand the operations of their MMDCEs in the country, by the
use of mobile phone.
According to the Programmes
Manager of SPEFA, Aberinga Milto,
Tech-enabled Project is an initiative
spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, with the
Regional Coordinating Council and Development Research and Advocacy Center DRAC
as implementing partners and Voto Mobile being the brain behind the technology.
The project is sponsored by Making All Voices Count, an NGO. Tech-enabled is a follow up of the SPEFA group
meetings, involving interest groups such as Community Based Organization CBOs,
Farmer Based Groups FBGs, and Market Women Groups among others.
The project which has been ongoing for the
past four years has started operations in Bolgatanga Municipal and the Bongo
District Assembly.
