Upper East
Regional Minister Rockson Ayine Bukari called on the people of Talensi, to bury
their political differences and remain united, in order to harness the vast
resources of Tongo under the current administration to advance the development
of the area.
The Minister
added he will operate an open door administration and make sure that all
municipal and District Chief Executives work closely with their Assembly
members and the people the at large.
Mr Bukari
lamented that the people of the Upper East cannot continue to live in abject
poverty in the mist of abundant resources.
However for him
to achieve his dream of facilitating development in the region, all MMDCEs
nominated by the President must be confirmed.
Mr. Sometiema
lost narrowly as he could not make the two thirds majority required of him to
be endorsed as District Chief executive by the Electoral Commission.
A total of 32
assembly members were expected to cast their votes according to the EC, but
only 30 voted with 2 absent.
Mr. Sometiema
pulled 19 of the total valid votes cast representing 63.3% as against 10 votes
against him and one rejected ballot.
The assembly
will have 21 days to reconvene another meeting for the second voting.
In his
acceptance speech Mr. Sometiema thank the honorable members for voting but
expressed his disappointment at the turn of event.
He however
advised his colleagues to rethink and put heads together to get him endorsed
next time for the sake for development in the Talensi district.
