Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly endorsed MCE-Upper East Region



It was an ecstatic feeling at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly following the confirmation of the President’s nominee for the position of the MCE. 

The nominee, Joseph Amiyure Atura received an overwhelming endorsement from members of the house having polled 49 out of 53 valid votes cast, representing 92 percent. 

Only four members voted against his candidature with no spoilt ballot. 

The election supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission, saw Atura being sworn into office by the Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari. 

He was administered through the oath of office and the oath of secrecy. 

In a brief remark, Mr Bukari expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo and the party for the confidence reposed in the nominee. 

Earlier, the Regional Minister assured the good people of Bolgatanga that, he will work closely and monitor the MCE to ensure that sense unity, development and sense of purpose is brought to the area. 

Though the assembly failed twice in its attempts to elect a presiding member to preside over the meeting, it however did not affect the confirmation process.  

In his acceptance, the newly elected MCE thanked the President, the assembly, and the party in general for the honor done him. 

He promised to operate an open administration so that every constructive developmental agenda is brought to bear in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

Rainstorm hit Tazika and Bagtua JHS












A rainstorm which swept through some part of the Kassena Nankana West district has ripped off the roofs of some school buildings in the area. 

Affected schools include Tazika, Nakolo Junior High schools and China Primary school. 

Fortunately no deaths or injuries were recorded. However the incident affected teaching and learning in the various schools. 

The MP for Chiana Paga constituency of the Kassena Nakana West District, Rudolf Nsorwinne Ameng-ego, donated three packets of roofing sheets and quantities of roofing nails to the various schools. 

The spokesperson for the MP, Mr Atanga Gilbert who donated the items on behalf of the MP explained that the MP, who is on an international assignment upon hearing the unfortunate development, quickly facilitated the donation of the items. 

Mr. Atanga Gilbert appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, in the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service to as a matter of urgency make an intervention to help solve the problem.   

He hinted, the MP during his thank you tour; identified a number of challenges facing each electoral area and has outlined plans to address them. 

Mr. Atanga mentioned the distribution of water pumping machines to do dry season farming, rehabilitation of boreholes throughout the constituency to provide good drinking water supply and manufacturing of benches to be supplied to various CHPS compounds, and women organizations in the constituency. 

On unity, the MP who is a development oriented person initiated the organization of Youth galas across the three zones of the constituency. 

The activity which saw the distribution of sports equipment to fifty Youth groups in the constituency has contributed immensely to the unity in the area. 

Mr. Atanga used the occasion to thank all those who supported the MP during the electioneering year and his subsequent thank you tour.  

Receiving the items on behalf of the affected schools, the assemblyman of Tazika-Bagtua Electoral area, Banalogoyeim Thomas thanked the MP for his intervention. 

He assured the MP that the items will be put into their intended use.

Tech-enabled SPEFA Technology platform launch UER











An innovative project designed to test the effectiveness of technology in enhancing Social Public and Financial Accountability SPEFA, has been launch in Bolgantanga in Upper East Region. 

Tech-enabled, is a technology platform with a call center number 0307084589 which citizens, with the use of mobile phone, can access information on development of their various communities in any sector such as agriculture, education, environment, sanitation or revenue generation of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies . 


The essence of Tech-enabled is to afford citizens the opportunity to understand the operations of their MMDCEs in the country, by the use of mobile phone.  

According to the Programmes Manager of SPEFA, Aberinga Milto, 

Tech-enabled Project is an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, with the Regional Coordinating Council and Development Research and Advocacy Center DRAC as implementing partners and Voto Mobile being the brain behind the technology. 

The project is sponsored by Making All Voices Count, an NGO.  Tech-enabled is a follow up of the SPEFA group meetings, involving interest groups such as Community Based Organization CBOs, Farmer Based Groups FBGs, and Market Women Groups among others.  

The project which has been ongoing for the past four years has started operations in Bolgatanga Municipal and the Bongo District Assembly.

Talensi District assembly failed to endorse DCE














Upper East Regional Minister Rockson Ayine Bukari called on the people of Talensi, to bury their political differences and remain united, in order to harness the vast resources of Tongo under the current administration to advance the development of the area.

The Minister added he will operate an open door administration and make sure that all municipal and District Chief Executives work closely with their Assembly members and the people the at large.

Mr Bukari lamented that the people of the Upper East cannot continue to live in abject poverty in the mist of abundant resources.

However for him to achieve his dream of facilitating development in the region, all MMDCEs nominated by the President must be confirmed.

Mr. Sometiema lost narrowly as he could not make the two thirds majority required of him to be endorsed as District Chief executive by the Electoral Commission.

A total of 32 assembly members were expected to cast their votes according to the EC, but only 30 voted with 2 absent.

Mr. Sometiema pulled 19 of the total valid votes cast representing 63.3% as against 10 votes against him and one rejected ballot.

The assembly will have 21 days to reconvene another meeting for the second voting.

In his acceptance speech Mr. Sometiema thank the honorable members for voting but expressed his disappointment at the turn of event.

He however advised his colleagues to rethink and put heads together to get him endorsed next time for the sake for development in the Talensi district.



Nabdam District Assembly confirmed DCE


The Upper East Regional Minister Rockson Ayine Bukari called on the people of Nabdam, to bury their political differences and remain united.

 The Minister added he will operate an open door administration and make sure that all municipal and District Chief Executives work closely with their Assembly members and the people the at large.

However for him to achieve his dream of facilitating development in the region, all MMDCEs nominated by the President must be confirmed.

Mr. Bukari made the called during a special meeting organized to confirm the President nominee Mrs Agnes Anamoo for the position of the Nabdam District Chief Executive.

Mrs. Agnes Anamoo confirmation was very successful as she pulled 13 votes out of the total 19 valid votes cast, representing 67%  of the two thirds majority required by the EC. 6 voted not in her favor with no rejected ballot.

Mrs. Anamoo was subsequently swon into office by the Regional Minister Rockson Bukari. The Regional Minister thanked the honorable members for endorsing the President nominee, Mrs. Anamoo, for the position of the District Chief Executive to expedite development in the Nabdam area.

Mrs. Anamoo in her acceptance speech, was full of joy and thanked the assembly members and the people of the area for the confidence reposed in her.
She promised that her doors are open for all for concerted effort to move the district forward.
