Press Soiree Held at Residency Upper East Region

A press soiree has been held at the residency in the Upper East Region, Bolgatanga by the Regional 
Coordinating council RCC.

The aim of the meeting was to interact and familiarized with the media in deepening the relationship between the governments concerning development in the region.

It brought together the media, Coordinating Directors, all the 10 Municipal and District Chiefs Executives MMDCEs, Heads of Departments, the various Security Agencies.

In his welcome address, the Regional coordinating Director Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko indicated that, in the round up to 2017, the media has given an in depth coverage to development activities in the region and deserve commendation.

He said, the media as the fourth Estate of the realm, was to put government machinery on check to deliver.

The media therefore plays vital role in the governance process of the country.  The Chairman of the Upper East Regional branch of the GJA, Mr. Eric Kwadjo Amoh indicated that, the media in Ghana stands first position in world affairs in Press Freedom and that the media was not resting of its ores as far as development in the Region is concerned.

Mr. Amoh appealed for an office and a means of transport to help ease the plight of the Journalist in the Region.

He stressed that the situation where rickety buses are often rented for Journalist for coverage was not proper. Mr Amoh urged the Regional Minister, his MMDCEs, all Heads of Departments and Agencies to always make information available to the media.

The Upper East Regional Minister Rockson Ayine Bukari recounted the media’s cooperation since his assumption into office a year ago.

He said, upon his tour of the paramount chiefs to solicit support for the implementation of the government’s laudable policies throughout the Regions, the media was proactive and visibly seem.

Mr. Bukari indicated that more than twenty-three thousand farmers in the region benefited from the planting for food and Jobs Programme, while fertilizers and other inputs were made available to farmers timely.

He touched on the free Senior High School which he stressed has relived parents of school fees. The One Village, One-Dame, One District One District, One Factory and One million Dollar for each constituency, he added,  will soon rolled out to create more Jobs for the people.

He called on the media to objectively report events and give fair commentaries to the good policies of the government.  

Chairman of the occasion, his Royal Highness Tongorana Kugbilsong Nalegtan urged the media to continue the good work and always do due diligent in their reportage in order to project the region.
